A musical message for the Carolina Hurricanes:

I just hope it's not overkill.

OK, it was Overkill.

Yes, the Carolina Hurricanes were officially eliminated from playoff contention last night, making this year the first time in history that both the previous year's Stanley Cup champion AND challenger failed to make the playoffs.

How's that for parity, Mr. Bettman?

Oh, and as it happens, these Devils fans from the 2006 playoffs eventually did end up being right, they were just 11 months early.

By the by, it's looking like a big night in New York this Thursday with four teams still battling for a playoff spot all meeting up in the big apple. The Rangers clinch with a point, so if I'm doing my math right, if they beat the Canadiens and the Isles beat the Leafs, we could be setting up a Saturday night showdown between Montreal and Toronto, on Hockey Night in Canada with a playoff berth on the line.

If this happens, everyone in Canada will be watching this game.

I guess what I'm saying is, anybody wanna drive to Canada with me this weekend for some good, old-fashioned looting?

Hell, we could do it in the nude for all they would notice up there.

We'll start drinking during warmups, and as soon as the puck drops, we strip naked and stroll to the center of downtown Toronto with this bitchin' metal saw. Then we cut down a parking meter, pitch it through the window of a JC Penny's, pick up some stereo equipment (and perhaps a sharp new suit of clothes) and saunter back to the hotel room in time for Coaches Corner.

It'll be the perfect crime.

Who's in?
