Can someone explain to me why exactly people at the NHL think that things other than the game of hockey will somehow encourage Americans to watch hockey?

i saw the DLep stuff and was horrified on how bad they sounded...and looked. What a waste of time..show us a GAME instead. I kept going to VS to see the B's game.that I thought was on at 10..but it kept getting later and later..
